PLANTA 4 ª

"We are not lame ... Cojonudos us! "

If memory fails us, from the exceptional " Road " ( Javier Fesser , 2008) by the occurrence of cancer in adolescence had not returned to be addressed in this blog ...

The issue is back in today, due to premiere of "Live Forever" ( Gustavo Ron , 2010), a story starring a 12 year old boy suffering from leukemia.

To roll "Planta 4 ª" ( Antonio Mercer , 2003), veteran writer and director include the claustrophobic "The Cabin" (1972) and hit television series "Verano azul" , was based on "The bald" , autobiographical play Albert Espinosa, who battled cancer from 14 to 24 years.

Antonio Mercer

As its title suggests, the plot develops in a child trauma hospital facility where inmates are several teenagers who suffer the consequences of traffic accidents and various tumors.

One of the protagonists is Juan José Ballesta, which was released in the cinema thanks to his outstanding work in award-winning "El Bola" ( Achero Mañas, 2000). In "4th Floor" plays Michelangelo, a cheerful, mischievous lad who has just had a leg amputee due to a tibial osteosarcoma.

He is accompanied on his adventures other children also affected by two osteosarcomas, Izan ( Luis Ángel Priego ), Dani ( Gorka Moreno ) and Guillermo ( Marcos Cedillo), alias " Cucumber," which will run worse luck than their peers, because when you are diagnosed bone cancer he will have already spread in the form of multiple lung metastases ... Recall that the distance from osteosarcoma relapse does not usually respond to chemotherapy and has very poor prognosis.

Dani, Miguel Angel and Izan

OSTEOSARCOMA

is the most common bone cancer in youth, the average age at diagnosis is 15 years. In late adolescence, the prevalence is higher in males. Although it may affect any bone, is more common in the epiphysis of long bones like tibia and femur (both locations near the knee) and proximal humerus (near the shoulder). In these ways, the screenplay for the film closely follows the reality.

From the pathological point of view are classified into osteogenic , predominantly atypical osteocytes forming osteoid bone and osteolytic , tumors less differentiated osteoclasts predominantly causing necrosis and bone destruction.

osteogenic Osteosarcoma

The most common symptoms are fractures (even may occur spontaneously), pain and local inflammation , and some functional disability (which can cause lameness if the tumor is located in the leg).

Confirmation of the diagnosis is made by biopsy . In the film, Jorge ( Alejandro Zafra ) is a boy who entered the hospital on suspicion of having a bone tumor. After suffering a motorcycle accident, radiographs revealed a radiolucent area in one of its warm ...

FILM ...

The scenes of this film were shot in the Hospital Príncipe de Asturias de Alcalá de Henares . Regarding treatment, Izan and Michelangelo have suffered amputations paths due to the reluctance of osteogenic implant that once were used to treat disease. Dani, however, rejected the implant, but has yet to complete courses of treatment with chemotherapy .

In the movie there is a very revealing scene. The uncompromising Dr. Gallego (Miguel Foronda), more critical of the antics of the boys that Dr. Marcos (Monti Castiñeiras our Galician !) Informs Dani, Izan and Miguel Angel of death of the late Guillermo. We note that the fear and rejection of chemotherapy is common among these patients, not at all willing to support the alopecia, general decay, nausea, vomiting and infertility caused by cytotoxic drugs (cisplatin, cyclophosphamide, ifosfamide, methotrexate with high-dose leucovorin and doxorubicin).

Castiñeiras Monti is Dr. Mark

While Michelangelo is the trauma that causes the disease and the strange relationship of love - hate against her father, Izan puts all his hopes on the biomechanical prosthesis that will allow you to keep a normal life once you left the hospital. Parallel to this, we also witness the love story which stars Daniel and Gloria ( Maite Jáuregui ) a young woman with anorexia admitted to the psychiatric facility, a sentiment that will serve as an engine to continue fighting their illnesses ...

to seal their commitment to the girl, Dani will give away one of the wristbands that looks at your wrist, as a valuable trophies of war: each operation, a bracelet ... The more bracelets, the more seniority, and further suffering.

How cancer than adolescents hospitalized? Is it Antonio real drama Mercero us in this film? Then they get through friendship, solidarity, love, music, sports, imagination, humor and fantasy, is there really the model of your dreams Miguel Angel? ...

From our humble perspective, we support the medical and educational value of this work, we attend as spectators to the particular microcosm (a fashion of McMurphy in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest ") generated within the walls of a health center, cold, aseptic impersonal, and how the ingenuity of these young patients allows them to survive the environment, enduring the pain of his illness and that of their peers.

cinephilia :

  • Izan 's character's last name is Espinosa, representing the alter ego Albert Espinosa, author of the play in which inspired the film ...

  • All the kids are fans of "Estopa" , involved in the final performance in the hospital gym.

  • As at the time happened to Lew Ayres , Monti Castiñeiras doctor also face ... In his role as Dr. Mark in this movie should be added as further intervention Dr. Fernando the in "And who are you" ( Antonio Mercer, 2007)

  • The original soundtrack is the work of Manuel Villalta multifaceted, arranger and composer who has worked with Nacha Pop and Miguel Bosé , in addition to composing the music for several other English films.

  • The collective exercise of masturbation which stars Daniel, Izan and Michelangelo is the bathroom of his room is the well-known musical background "March Radezstky" , Johann Strauss composition father, a milestone in the traditional New Year Concert Vienna .

"My last purchases "

Sorry I been so long without updating, I've been pretty busy.
What's New? Yes, I am officially an adult from 11 October. There are no new relevant (hahaha)

leave my last shopping here!

1) Blackberry Curve 8520
My great treasure, my Blackberry !
was tired of my old phone touch (I hate the touch) and decided to spend the new world of Blackberry and has been one of the best purchases I've ever done! It is incredible what you can do with it: Blackberry Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, Twitter ... everything you can imagine and more. It is the best device for messaging in my opinion. Has only two "bad" things that depends on what you want to give this phone can be considered bad or not, the camera has no flash and do not expect a web page navigation, with great content, because no ultra-fast 3G . If you want to use for IM, twitter, tuenti, facebook and applications of this type (such as in my case) this is your perfect phone as for that, goes perfectly.
Your keyboard maybe I may seem small or uncomfortable, but for nothing! is like writing on your computer can do it SUPER FAST! It's great.

2) Pull Man
I have to confess that I have never liked the colonies "man" and had never used one, I've always used soft odors Nenuco style (I know, is for babies but ... I love it I can not help). This colony has pleasantly surprised me, the you can buy in Pull & Bear and has a good price, they are 100ml of a soft and fresh scent is a smell at all heavy or boring. It was a great success!
And as you see the design is not bad:

3) London Cushion
I saw in the store and said ... This has to adorn my bed!
I can find in Portico

4) New York Box
I watched while the pad in London and loved it.
Portico is also

4) Cap
The New Yorker bought in . I really like this style hat sits

What do you think all?

The Ballad of Narayama

"Our lives are as narratives or stories as we represent them in the world. Therefore, to understand the stories of elders, we can better understand the various ways in which the elders define their self-esteem and what approaches are problematic ... "

" Ethics and Aging " , George J. Agich . In "From life to death" , ThomasM and David C. Kushner Thomasine . Cambridge University Press, 1999.

So what would be measured at a given society by its treatment of its elderly?

Many filmmakers have attempted to answer this question from quite diverse artistic sensibilities, from the newly "Amador" (Fernando León de Aranoa , 2010), through Oscar-winning "Back to Bountiful" (Peter Masterson, 1985) or the gritty neorealism of "Umberto D." (Vittorio de Sica , 1952), to the minimalist masterpiece titled "The Window" ( Carlos Sorin, 2008) or co English - Argentina "Elsa and Fred" ( Marcos Carnevale , 2005), starring the tandem of China Zorrilla and Manuel Alexandre our dear , recently died at 92 years of age.

China Zorrilla and Manuel Alexandre are "Elsa and Fred"

was beginning this post by referring to a letter of George J. Agich , doctor and professor specializing in bioethics .

is the illustrious author of an essay that tries to raise certain basic questions about the ethics of aging answered so I understand perhaps unintentional, but with proven solvency, "The Ballad of Narayama" (Shohei Imamura , 1983).

things first. The contemplation of abandonment of an old man causes us a feeling of sorrow and an overwhelming sense of revulsion. This unacceptable situation apparently come into collision with the story that exposes Imamura before our eyes.

In a contemporary society , which worships youth, health and independence, would it be permissible to walk away from our elders? If medical advances our society is increasingly aging, if in addition the current global economic crisis has served to awaken us from that sweet dream of unlimited resources, "end up being the elderly, the weak and the poor suffer most?

As always, the film could not avoid the challenge of reality, although this may not be present but in later times more pessimistic. "Aufstand der Alter" ( Lühdorff Jörg, 2007), a German television series entitled could translate as "The revolt of the elders" raises under the mockumentary format of a revolt of senior citizens in By 2030 at the inhuman conditions in which they live. A science - fiction? ...

In "The Ballad of Narayama", by way of a great haiku full of lyricism and beauty, the influential filmmaker Japan develops the subsistence of a rural family in Japan of E ra Meiji (1868 - 1912) where realism and brutality shocked the conscience of our people "civilized": suicide, infanticide (the corpse of a baby left on the fields of rice ice cream), murder , bestiality (the moron who relieves his lust with a beautiful dog breed Akita Inu ), utilitarianism, the law of retaliation ... Imamura proliferate makes animal mating scenes to remind the fuzzy border that separates those unfortunate human beasts themselves ...

The cold, storm, snow, snowmelt, dirt, wind, the stench can lead to release of the human body, as opposed to the aroma of flowers and the sweetness that follows the freshly boiled rice, and the tiring climb up the makeshift charnel house of the mountain, leaving the screen to shudder, if anything even more, as viewers of this stunning work of cinematic art.

Does someone could avoid the shock to the ruthless scene in which a man pushing his elderly father over a cliff?

Orin (Sumiko Sakamoto) and Tatshuei (Ken Ogata)

The protagonist is Orin ( Sumiko Sakamoto). The date of his 70 th anniversary is approaching and she hunched over the work and the weight of years, begin to consider their last trip to Mount Narayama to complete their life cycle. Ancient customs suggest to a male relative take the old man turns 70 to the inhospitable peaks to leave there to their fate. Matter of survival. How to sell or kill their sons when the family exist in a firstborn and a baby.

hunched over a more than likely osteoporosis and spinal osteoarthritis , despite his age Orin enjoy a healthy life. Working in the field and captained the housework, and still has a teeth in good condition that allows smooth feeding. In a moving scene we'll see how she breaks several teeth knocking against a stone, to speed up their disability.

His eldest son is Tatsuhei ( Ken Ogata), family patriarch since his father disappeared in the past, loaded forever with the stigma of cowardice for not daring to take up the Narayama his mother. Tatsuhei deeply loves and respects Orin. Your feelings are torn between affection for the venerable old lady and be pent up anger to blame for the inhuman task of cruel neglect.

why a company should get rid of one of its members who still enjoys its own autonomy? Did Orin, despite its limitations and immersed in the heat of their daily tasks, does not lead the best life possible? This is one of the first controversies present in the film Imamura.

Shohei Imamura

Against popular opinion, "The Ballad of Narayama" is an original work by Shohei Imamura. The script is based on the original novel Shihirô Fukazawa (1914 - 1987). A version of the same name in 1958, directed by Keisuke Kinoshita , starring the prolific Japanese actress Kinu Tanaka in the role of Orin.

philosopher Daniel Callahan ( The Hastings Center - New York ) , renowned authority on bioethics has argued on the positive role of the elderly in society, especially when transmitted to younger generations young life experiences and their cherished values. This Levario implicit positivism, especially for those over 85 years, the willingness to accept death as appropriate . In other words, the elderly would be forced to participate in the social function to make room for the next generation. In the workplace, this is already happening with retirement. According to Callahan, would be unfair to support and require the use of technology and research to prolong the life of the very elderly. The dispute is served.

In contrast these ideas, not just non-Western cultures value the elderly, but also the honor and revere. Is still fresh and recent discovery in Atapuerca of fossil remains of Homo antecessor senile and disabled supposedly care for the rest of the community until the end of his days.

Where establish the boundaries to give up on life? Callahan proposed the 85 years (by the way, he is now 80!). Just remember here that the current life expectancy of women in Galicia and Spain and slashing almost that age ... In "The Ballad of Narayama" the limit is 70, maybe a negligible figure considering the health and social conditions in rural Japan in those days ...

In the movie "Logan's Run" ( Michael Anderson, 1976), which then generate a hit television series, the border was in the 30 years, but in the original novel of William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson inspiring screenplay required to extinction was equal to 21 years!.

The old Orin was lucky the day he ascended to Narayama to complete its existence, it started snowing ...

concluding these reflections as began with a quote from George J. Argich:

"obvious injustice associated with aging in our society an injustice that mere changes in social policy is not easily eradicated, it does not value the elderly as are elderly people. These are people who have survived and lived past. If we fail to appreciate this simple truth, our society will not solve ethical issues related to old age. "

PRECIOUS

Precious ( Lee Daniels, 2009) is a holder of a quality film in contemporary cinema exigua, who succeeded in earning at the same praise from critics and the public.

Although at first glance we could label it in film and social commitment, the director shamelessly confessed their intentions clear when make a blockbuster movie, even at the expense of a dramatic format on the ability of the human spirit.

Geoffrey's script is based on Fletcher Push , the original novel by African American writer Sapphire , which also plays a small role in the film.

We are not in a film that focuses on a specific disease. As spectators witnessed the harrowing story of Clareece "Precious" Jones (colossal interpretation of the debutante Gabourey Sidibe), a 16 year old girl whose entire life has never enjoyed a moment of happiness: Women of color , obese, born in Harlem deeper and marginal, with the connivance maternal subject to sexual abuse of his father since age 3, raped systematically by his father, an illiterate ...

Gabourey Gabby Sidibe is Precious

At just 16 years to load on their stout back with the heavy burden of 2 children who both were his brothers, a girl with Down syndrome and also suffer relentlessly constant brutal humiliation of a mother (Mo'nique ) also the responsibility of all its misfortunes ... A bleak picture ...

's bring this blog as a reason for reflection of a pathology, morbid obesity, which extends our society as a large patch of oil.

Women Jones family

Until a decades, obesity was interpreted as a disease opulence. However, statistics show that lower socioeconomic status are most affected by this disease. Obesity is often accompanied by other cruel disease, type 2 diabetes . Even some authors have identified poverty as the direct cause of obesity, with a greater effect than the bad eating habits:

This film seems designed to argue that axiom. The women of the Jones family are poor and obese. Mary Jones, Mother, shows us all the time sitting in front of the TV permanently requiring the care of her daughter Precious. Alcohol, calorie aerated drinks, greasy trotters and lots of fried chicken are a regular part of your diet, abundant and inexpensive food that feed the needy in the supposedly developed world. Physical inactivity, the mother adds another factor that increases its cardiovascular risk : smoking.

Mo'nique is the despotic Mary Jones

Precious is a regular at fast food establishments. In one scene we see her run through the streets with a huge bowl of fried chicken wings.

When Precious gives birth to her little Abdul, companions in the alternative school "Each One / Teach One" will make a visit at the maternity. All say they are devoted to the burgers and junk food.

People who care about this poor girl are low:

  • rocker Lenny Kravitz plays John nurse who takes care of Precious after her second delivery.

  • Mariah Carey is the Miss Weiss, a social worker in charge of the Jones family.

  • Finally, the beautiful Paula Patton is Miss Rain, the feisty teacher in charge of alternative education program, even come to house the young outcast when he flees with her small the brutality of the mother's home.

Dear VOGUE ... I hate umbrellas

Yesterday I had several free hours between classes, so I took a vuelta.Me found Vogue magazine this month and I decided to buy it because the cover image I liked and it was ages since I read this magazine. The magazine brings two other journals included in the price ... one on the hair and Supplements, which is not bad.
I have to say I was very disappointed Vogue not know if it's because it was long time since I read it or why but ... I liked it. Besides the large amount of advertising that brings the magazine, I found the contents quite malos.Todos know that this magazine is generally aimed at people with a high economic level and is willing to pay large sums for fashion exclusive of the great designers but for my taste, overall clothing and accessories that brings these numbers are VERY tacky , from a horrible Chanel bag of 5500 € to some awful Louis Vuitton shoes of 980 € .
Not much is used in this issue, all very unique but all very horrible.
One positive is that there are some pretty decent stuff and the photos of the sessions of the models are spectacular, but ... in general would take a bad score.

I think that today is valued more signature item the design itself, we are blinded by the designer and can not see beyond their signature ... There are many designers out there with great talent and spectacular designs that are not being recognized as they deserve and that, in my view, deserve to be in the market over some horrible designs for 'the great'

do not know if something happened to him lately or Vogue it's just this issue ... What do you say regular readers? Where is the bible of fashion used to be? I have a course that I will continue with the journal Trends which is much more my style.
